Scream 5 Trailer Passes The Torch.
It’s been 25 years since Wes Craven redefined the horror genre with his original take on the slasher movie with Scream. The cultural impact that movie delivered can still be felt today and the movie spawned an iconic main villain in the shape of ‘Ghostface‘.
The original generated three sequels and now we have a fourth with Scream 5 reuniting original cast members David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Roger L. Jackson, (the voice of Ghostface). Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, (Ready Or Not, V/H/S), the film isn’t a reboot but a straight sequel to the 2011 movie Scream 4 and will be the first film of the franchise not to be directed by the late Wes Craven.
The plot for Scream 5 rattles along like so:
‘Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.‘
In much the same vein as the recent Halloween movies we have yet again a group of legacy characters teaming up with a new cast to defeat an age-old enemy. As you can see from the trailer there’s even a hint that the house from the original movie is featured which is the same plot mechanic used in the forthcoming Halloween Kills.
Scream 5 is scheduled for release in January 4th, 2022.
