Will Smith To Remake The Wild Bunch.

Probably a tiny bit peeved he missed out on the success of Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Will Smith has gone and signed up to produce and star in a remake of Sam Peckinpah’s seminal western The Wild Bunch.

Although plans for a a remake have been in the pipeline for a number of years the news that such a wholesome, family orientated Hollywood actor like Will Smith would want to remake such a bloody, violent, gritty western concerns me greatly. I really don’t want to see a milder, watered down, PG-13 version of The Wild Bunch.

Another aspect about this announcement which sets the alarm bells ringing is that it’s to be a ‘modern remake’, with the plot revolving around drug cartels across the Mexican border and a disgraced DEA agent who assembles a team to go after a drug lord and his fortune.

I take it they’re conveniently forgetting about the TV series The Shield.
