Mel Brooks Is Planning Spaceballs 2.

When it comes to news about sequels nothing surprises me. We live in an age where we’re about to get a follow-up to Independence Day a movie which is nearly 20 years old, so why not have a sequel to a film which is almost 30 years old.

Legendary comedian and film director is apparently planning to film Spaceballs 2, a follow-up to his original cult classic released back in 1987. Speaking recently on Adam Carolla’s podcast he had this to say about the movie:

If I did a movie that came out right after Star Wars comes out, you know, maybe a couple of months later, Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, I’d have a big weekend, you know, no matter what, even if it fell on its ass and you know, didn’t get that money back

But that first weekend, the anticipation of seeing Spaceballs 2, would, you know…I still have Daphne Zuniga and I still have Rick Moranis if he’d do it, and I’ve still got me.

Of course John Candy was in the original and sadly that great man is no longer with us but if Brooks is serious about this idea then you can be sure people like Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill would want to be in on it.
