Oliver Twist Remake – With Added Heist Action.

Let’s face it most Oliver Twist adaptations are boring. They’re always full of poor people, orphans, ripped trousers and gruel. What the property needs is some, (to paraphrase the late, great Troggs frontman Reg Presley), ‘fucking fairy dust sprinkled over it’.

Enter stage left Sony Pictures and their audacious idea to make an Oliver Twist movie which pairs Ollie and the Artful Dodger together, 20 years on from the original story, as they hatch a daring plan to steal the crown jewels. Imaginatively entitled Dodge & Twist. Blind my eyes Guv!

The Hollywood Reporter is stating that this project is being fast tracked and that Matt Tolmach and Ahmet Zappa are producing the film. Apparently the movie is based upon an idea by Zappa and not on the book of the same name which was released in 2011.

Let’s just examine for a minute the stark differences between Zappa’s supposed idea and the book Dodge & Twist written by Tony Lee. The book is set 12 years after the original story, not 20, and Oliver teams up with the Dodger to steal the fabled Koh-I-Noor diamond from the 1851 Great Exhibition, not the crown jewels.

Yep, seems Zappa’s ‘original‘ idea is legit.
