Do you remember a 1997 movie called Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion? No? Well dust off your VHS player and acquaint yourself with the film as a long-awaited sequel might be on its way. Massive emphasis on ‘might‘.
Speaking to E! Online actress Mira Sorvino, who played Romy White in the movie, revealed that she’s very keen to do a sequel along with co-star Lisa Kudrow, who played Michele Weinberger, and if the enthusiasm for a follow-up by the main cast wasn’t enough she also added that the writer of the movie, Robin Schiff, was also onboard. One slight hitch though, Disney who own the rights to the property haven’t mentioned any plans for a sequel since the original was released 17 years ago.
Normally this is where our story would face-plant off the pavement kerb and into oncoming traffic and I’d get back to surfing the Internet for cute pictures of otters, but remember we are living in the Kickstarter and online petition age kids, where anything is possible, even a Zach Braff movie.
The plot for Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion centred around two 28 year-old females who decide to attend their high school reunion by fabricating their ordinary, vanilla lives into outrageous, unbelievable success stories. Fertile ground for the ensuing of hilarity. The film was praised by critics and raked in a modest box office return of nearly $30m. It also garnered quite the cult following and has remained a firm favourite with fans to the present day, so there is an audience for a sequel, but whether there’ll be a sequel for the audience remains to be seen.
