Super Troopers 2 Needs Cash For Final Push.
Turns out the sequel for the comedy troupe Broken Lizard’s cop movie Super Troopers is need of a little cash injection to get it filmed and released.
The 2001 movie about a collection of misfit Vermont policemen and their omni-angry superior, (played by Brian Cox), became a huge cult hit and remains a firm favourite with many but plans for filming a sequel have hit a hurdle, a hurdle which apparently can only be crossed by way of $15m.
Co-writer and actor Steve Lemme recently explained in an interview with UsWeekly that the project had fallen short of production due to budget constraints, but he was hopeful that the cash needed to progress would be raised, maybe even through the launch of a Kickstarter:
“Fox is going to distribute the film, but we needed to raise the money for it, with a minimum budget of $27 million, which we’ve just about raised. There may be a Kickstarter launched to raise the last little bit. I think it’s one of the more unique and interesting stories I’ve seen in a while, but the movie picks up pretty much where we left off in the first one. It’s a few years later. The biggest difficulty was trying to top that opening scene, which so many people have complimented us on. I think we’ve done it.”
If Lemme & Co do decide to launch a Kickstarter for Super Troopers 2 I’ll post an update.
