I am not a fan of Tron: Legacy, the sequel to the original 1982 movie Tron, and I’m not alone in this judgement. Reviews of the film and box office takings were less than stellar when it was released five years ago. Nevertheless Disney obviously feel the property still has legs which is why they have surprisingly announced a third movie for the franchise.

Apparently cameras are set to roll on Tron 3 in Vancouver this autumn with Joesph Kosinski once again back in the director’s chair. Movie website Badass Digest have confirmed the announcement but there is very little else except for that. Garrett Hedlund will be looking out the talcum powder so he can slip into the blinky wetsuit for another round of hi-tech shenanigans and Kosinski seems enthused for the project. He even went as far to provide a clue as to the direction the third film will be taking, he explained:

“Tron 3 delivers on the promise of Tron Legacy, particularly its final scenes. There’s a big clue there as to where we’ll go with the next one. There are also some characters we establish at the beginning of Tron: Legacy who have a much larger role in Tron 3.”

This might mean that Cillian Murphy and Michael Sheen’s characters may feature more. No word on a scheduled release date but it does seem the movie will once again be filmed for IMAX.
