Kevin Smith Is Planning A Mallrats Sequel.

Personally speaking I think Mallrats is Kevin Smith’s finest movie and so it fills me with happiness that the director is now planning to film a sequel nearly 20 years later.

For me, Smith takes a barrage of unnecessary abuse from fans, ex-fans and film critics alike on the Internet, which everyone knows is a communication tool used the world over where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another. So you don’t like his sense of humour or his creative direction? So don’t watch his movies. For a number of years now Smith has stated that he really doesn’t care if his films make little money at the box office or garner glowing reviews from critics. He’s only concerned now with making movies which will be a fun process for cast, crew and his die-hard fans who collectively appreciate the merits of a quality dick joke.

Speaking recently on an American radio show after hinting on social media Mallrats 2 was now a bona-fide project he stated:

‘…that’s what we’re working on. It’s half a script right now, and we’re pulling our loot together. We’ve got up until the beginning of 2016. By the time we get to May 2016, we’re going to be shooting. Lately I’ve been doing this thing where I’m like, ‘Do you want to do what’s good for your career, or do you just want to have fun?’ Nobody’s clamouring for a Mallrats sequel, but I would love to make one. It’s been, like, 20 years.”

I know that Clerks 2 wasn’t the movie fans expected or wanted and with Clerks 3 now in the pipeline excitement for that project has waned a little, but the prospect of watching Brodie, T.S., Jay and Silent Bob on the big screen once more gets my vote every time.
