The Birds Of Prey Trailer Is A Neon Spectacle.
I’m not going to lie, Suicide Squad was one of the worst viewing experiences I’ve ever had and upon hearing that a Harley Quinn stand-alone movie was in the works, as an official spin-off/sequel, I was less than enthused.
But my dispassionate response evaporated after watching the official Birds Of Prey trailer and I know feel far more positive about the movie’s prospects. This looks like a fresh, dynamic take on the superhero genre. An all female affair with guns, headbutts, neon colours, female empowerment and witty one-liners.
The plot rattles along like so:
After the events of Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn has left the Joker. When a young girl named Cassandra Cain comes across a diamond belonging to a crime lord by the name of Black Mask, Harley joins forces with Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to protect her.
From the trailer alone it appears the plot will be driven by female liberation, the full original title of this movie is Birds Of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn. We also learn that Harley Quinn is finished acting as gopher for men, she even states in one scene : “Do you know what a harlequin is? A harlequin’s role is to serve. It’s nothing without a master. No one gives two sh— who we are without that.”
Brace yourself for the toxic, masculine, incel backlash. Birds Of Prey is scheduled for release on February 7th, 2020.
