Hey guys, how excited would you be if I were to tell you that a Robocop TV series is in the works…a prequel TV series…which won’t feature Robocop at all…but will instead focus on ‘the rise of Omni Consumer Products’?
That’s right, a prequel Robocop TV series which will chart the successful rise of tech firm Omnicore is currently in early development at MGM. Apparently, Ed Neumeier, who penned the original script for the first Robocop movie, is involved and in a recent interview with Moviehole he explained that the series will focus on the business of Omicore and their involvement in producing tech for law enforcement in a futuristic Detroit.
He explained: “There’s the idea of doing things about business and law enforcement in the city of Detroit a minute-and-a-half in the future. It would be a way to do all sorts of stories about business and tech, Silicon Valley, corporations, snakes in suits, cops, all that. It’s a wonderful rich tapestry.”
He also went on to detail that the series will focus on the trials and tribulations of Dick Jones, (originally played by Ronny Cox in the first Robocop movie), who eventually becomes CEO of Omnicore. Unsurprisingly the show doesn’t yet have a solid go-ahead from MGM but hopes are high a pilot can be shot relatively soon.
