Gremlins 3 Needs Spielberg’s Permission.
Everyone has a different opinion when it comes to remakes, sequels or reboots of certain existing franchises or properties, some love the idea, some downright hate it. Recently Frank Marshall has been promoting The Bourne Legacy and during certain interviews has been quizzed over the possibility of a third Gremlins movie.
Why would a Gremlins sequel have anything to do with Frank Marshall? Well he co-founded Amblin Entertainment along with his wife Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg in 1981 and Gremlins, directed by the multi-talented Joe Dante, was produced by the film company in 1984. Spielberg served as exec-producer on that movie and according to Marshall pretty much has the final say when it comes to a third Gremlins movie. Speaking to Crave Online he said:
“You know, we’ve had people call us about it but I think that’s another one that’s kind of now left to be its own. It’s like doing ‘Goonies 2 ’ or ‘E.T. 2.’ I think it’s another time, it’s another era and they should just rest where they are…I think by now we have something in our contracts, or at least Amblin does, where it can’t be remade without Steven’s permission.””
