Producer Joel Silver along with Universal Pictures are currently planning out a remake of the 80s cult classic Weird Science.
A writer has already been hired to pen the script and word through the vine is that it’s Michael Bacall, a man previously responsible for Project X. No word on a director or cast at this stage although to be fair they’ll have to go some to find the same chemistry Anthony Michael Hall, IIan Mitchell-Smith and Kelly LeBrock had in the original, not to mention the fact it was penned by the late, great genius John Hughes.
The only official word coming from Universal is that the remake is to be :
‘An edgier R-rated comedy in line with 21 Jump Street and The Hangover’.
(collective sighs of relief all round).
You do know it’s only a matter of time before Jaws and The Goonies get a remake, which will also coincide with my departure from this unforgiving planet.
