Possible New ‘Series’ Of Independence Day Movies.
A while back movie director Roland Emmerich announced that work was under-way on a sequel to his uber successful sci-fi blockbuster Independence Day. Now it seems there was more than just a sequel in the pipeline, following the announcement that a whole new series of ID movies could be coming to the big screen.
A couple of months ago Emmerich’s co-writer Dean Devlin stated that the pair had some really great ideas for the proposed sequel but more recently Emmerich himself has revealed that their aim is now to create a whole new series of Independence Day movies:
“That’s actually what we talked a lot about. The mythology of why did the aliens come in the first place; what is the bigger story of this whole thing? And we talked a lot about swarm intelligence. [The humans] are individual intelligence. Even though we kill each other and have wars against each other, we have something special.
“We have this domino human spirit to believe in good and overcoming enemies. It’s a little bit about that, and when you get a bigger mythology going, I think then you have the chance to do not only one or two or three but you can create a series. That’s what we want to do.”
As for a possible cast the pair have strongly hinted at a return for Jeff Goldblum and hopes are high for Bill Pullman and Will Smith to reprise their roles tooI
