Sigourney Weaver Set To Star In All Three Avatar Films.
Hollywood actress Sigourney Weaver is set to return to not one Avatar sequel but all three, which are currently being planned for release on 2016, 2017 and 2018. The catch to this announcement is that Weaver won’t be returning to play the role of Grace Augustine but instead an entirely new character.
If this news wasn’t confusing enough director James Cameron also revealed that actor Stephen Lang will reprise his role of Colonel Quaritch to feature in the new films, even though, (SPOILERS FOR A FIVE YEAR OLD FILM AHEAD), his character kicked the bucket in the original.
Speaking recently about Weaver’s return Cameron explained:
“Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made Aliens. We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the Avatar sequels. Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films. We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration.”
My money is on Weaver playing some sort of Na’vi character who according to Cameron never dies if she’s to feature in all three films. Spoiler alert Mr Cameron, please!
