Flintstones Reboot To Be Animated.

I’ve watched the first half of the 1994, Steven Spielberg produced movie The Flintsones, which starred Elizabeth Perkins, John Goodman and Rick Moranis, (please Rick, for the love of God come back to us). I’ve never returned to that film to find out what happens to Barney Rubble or Fred in the final half and for good reason.

Despite the fact that Hollywood’s first attempt to turn a much loved animated property into a live-action movie garnered widespread negative criticism, the film went on to become a box office success raking in more than $340m against a $46m budget.

Now twenty years later Warner Bros, sensing there’s still audience appetite out there for the property, (putting aside the fact that the God awful Viva Rock Vegas completely tanked), have announced another feature length Flintstones movie is to be made but this time it’ll be an entirely animated affair, scripted by Chris Henchy (The Campaign, The Other Guys), and produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

Apparently Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane was working on the project previously before bailing out due to other commitments and the understanding is Ferrell and McKay’s production team are to pick up where McFarlane left off.  At least this time around their sticking to the animated origins of The Flintstones and have proven comedic talent leading the way.

The reboot has been scheduled for release next year.
