Fury Road Prequel Gets A Cast.
Apart from being the shittiest year in recent history 2020 has thrown-up a few glimmers of hope, one being that progress on George Miller’s much anticipatied Mad Max – Fury Road prequel, is powering ahead. Pandemic be damned!
So much advancement has been made on this project that a cast has now been announced and Any Taylor-Joy, (The Witch), has been confirmed as a younger Furiosa, who will be joined by Chris Hemsworth, (Thor), and Yahya Abdul-Mateen, (Aquaman), though their roles are unyet confirmed.
The prequel will chart the adventures of young Furiosa before she became Immorten Joe’s favourite war captain. The reason Charlise Theron won’t be reprising her original role is beacuse director George Miller felt the CGI effects weren’t at a convincing level to shave 20 years off the actress.
In a recent interview he explained:
“For the longest time, I thought we could just use CG de-ageing on Charlize, but I don’t think we’re nearly there yet…despite the valiant attempts on The Irishman, I think there’s still an uncanny valley. Everyone is on the verge of solving it, particular Japanese video-game designers, but there’s still a pretty wide valley, I believe.”
Miller has long stated that Fury Road was a ‘re-imagining’ of the Mad Max franchise and not a sequel or prequel. Could it be that Fury Road will act as a foundation for futher wasteland spin-off movies? Now that is something to get excited about.
No details on a filming schedule for Furiosa but expect an announcement soon.
