Dredd Fans Urged To Use KickStarter For Sequel.
During the recent Motor City Comic Con actor Karl Urban, who played Judge Dredd in 2012’s criminally underrated sci-fi flick Dredd, urged fans of the property to launch a Kickstarter campaign, so that a sequel can finally get underway.
Ever since the original movie was released to critical acclaim die-hard fans have been calling for a sequel but due to a mediocre initial box office performance there’s been some reluctance for a follow-up, even though Dredd performed outstandingly well when it was released on DVD and Blu-Ray later in the year.
Seizing on the momentum of the fan’s campaign and hunger for a sequel Urban as urged that a Kickstarter campaign could be the answer to getting another movie up and running. Urban himself has already stated that he’d love to reprise his role as Judge Dredd and writer Alex Garland has revealed he already knows what direction a sequel would take. If the fans respond to Urban’s suggestion then a Kickstarter campaign could be the key but it’s a big ask, especially when a figure of over $10m would be needed, which would be a proverbial mountain for any crowdfunded project to achieve.
