A while back we wrote about a prequel being filmed for Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown. Well here’s the trailer for Life Of Crime, a movie being dubbed a ‘sort of’ prequel starring John Hawkes and Yasiin Bey, (formerly Mos Def) as younger versions of the characters played by Robert De Niro and Samuel L Jackson in the 1997 crime thriller.
That’s pretty much the only element which ties these two films together, the fact we get to watch younger versions of Louis Gara and Ordell Robbie getting up to nefarious activities. The official plot of the movie rattles along like so:
Margaret “Mickey” Dawson, (Jennifer Aniston), is a loving, if not naive, housewife whose husband, Frank Dawson, (Time Robbins), has been embezzling millions for years and keeping the cash in off-shore accounts without her knowledge. Two career criminals, Louis Gara, (John Hawkes), and Ordell Robbie, (Yasiin Bey) catch wind of his scam and figure if they hold Mickey for ransom, Frank would have no choice but to pay up a million dollars. Except, what they don’t plan on is that Frank’s head over heels for his sex-kitten mistress, Melanie, (Isla Fisher), and doesn’t want his wife back.
Life of Crime is based on the Elmore Leonard novel The Switch, which was written a full 14 years before Rum Punch was later adapted into Jackie Brown by Tarantino.
