The Grudge Redband Reboot Trailer Doesn’t Hold Back.
Wow! Are we really here…again? Yes, but this isn’t a reboot this is a ‘reimagining of a remake’?
Not content with remaking the original Grudge movie back in 2004, (two years after Takashi Shimizu‘s original), and then two sequels, it appears Hollywood execs are perfectly comfortable with wiping the slate clean and rebooting the franchise with a ‘reimagining of the remake’,…makes perfect sense.
The Grudge (2020) has been directed by Nicolas Pesce, (Piercing), and produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise. Incidentally, Raimi and Tapert produced the original Grudge remake and subsequent sequels. It also stars Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye and Jacki Weaver and the plot rattles along like so:
A single mother and young detective, Muldoon (Andrea Riseborough), discovers that a suburban house is cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death. Now, she runs to save herself and her son from demonic spirits from the cursed house in her neighborhood.
Yes, I could go full-blown pessimist about the existence of this film and wax lyrical about the absolute redundancy of ideas in Hollywood but I can’t deny that the trailer is extremely creepy and that it will probably do well at the box office.
